My View After Learning Critical Literacy

5. You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestion, please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as whole.

After learning Critical Literacy for about four months, I found that this subject is not quite hard, what we need to do as students is to put an efforts in reading and try to understand and practices because practices makes perfect. Other than that, I found that this subject is quite interesting because it helped us students to use full potency of human's brain. Then, this subject also boost my interest in reading. The students can gain knowledge by just knowing other people perception. This subject taught me that I cannot rely on opinion when making a statement, and when looking for justification for my premises, I should know whether the author is credible or not in which depending on their education, achievements, experience, job or position and reputation. Overall, this subject teaches us not to believe everything we read without questioning it. Last but not least, I hope that I can score this subject and get A's from it and can increase my GPA
PROPOSITION

4. Proposition:Hollywood produces great movies, but they don't always tell the truth even it based on "True Stories" Provide at least two premises or counter arguments for the proposition. Write in complete paragraph

Nowdays, Hollywood produces many box offices movies that are so interesting and there is also many movies based on a true stories. But, actually they don't always tell the truth even it stated that the movie is based on "true stories" Hollywood director is very good in deceiving people. They change the storyline and add many extra scene to make the movie look epic and awesome. In fact, there is no evidence to support the "truth" about the movies, but viewers tend to believe it. For example, nowdays there many movies about muslim's prophet such as Noah and Exodus kings and Gods. Both of these movies are claimed as based on "true stories' and many of the non-muslim believe it and eventually it can cause Islamophobia because of the story. In fact, the stories are not original because the "true" scene was changed and being replaced by a scene that make our prophet, Noah and Moses as a bad guy. There many more movies that being changed because they want to fulfill the demand of the viewers, not to tell the "true side" of it.
Baby for Sale (Black market Baby)
Question 3

From my point of view, I'm totally disagree with the statement because we talked about human's life not thing. Yes, Indeed, now days money is everything and people in this modern civilization are more likely materialistic because with money, they can survive from this cruel world. But the question is, can money buy happiness? the answer is NO. why I said like that? This is because there's a lot of ways to acquire happiness. In the statement given,it stated that now days, babies are being sold to rich people because they can't have their own children. This is totally illegal in Islam and considered as Haram because this is involved a human's life. Besides, this baby-for-sale is like a human trafficking and it is totally illegal in many country such as in Malaysia. And for rich couples that doesn't have their own children, they can just adopt the babies at any orphanage in this country.
Stereotyping

2. Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. It is also something that most people fond difficult to avoid from doing. What do you think?

From my thinking, Stereotyping simply means the act of hasty generalization to a certain groups based on the action of an individual or a small part of that group. According to Hendrix (2002) in Pearson et al, “Unfortunately, our stereotypes of people from different groups are often negative.” People should avoid doing stereotyping at all cost, since it has the capability to stray the relationship between human being. When one does stereotyping, prejudice occur due to unfavorable predisposition towards the one who does the stereotyping.Basically, We do this because different factors contribute to why people stereotype each other. We stereotype people when we are unable or unwilling to obtain all of the information we need to make a fair judgement about people or situations. In the absence of the so called 'total picture,' to stereotype people in many cases allow us to 'fill in the missing pieces of information." Our society often innocently creates and perpetuates stereotypes, but these stereotypes often lead to unfair discrimination and persecution when the person been stereotype is unfavorable. For example, if we are walking through a park late at night and encounter three senior citizens wearing fur coats and walking with canes, we may not feel as threatened as if we were met by three high school-aged boys wearing hoodies. These generalizations root from our experiences we have had ourselves, read in books, and magazines, seen in movies or television, or have had related to us by friends and family. In many cases, these stereotypical generalizations are reasonably accurate. Yet in virtually, every case we are resorting to is prejudice by ascribing characteristics about a person based on appearance, without knowledge of the total facts. By stereotyping, we assume that a person or a group of certain characteristics. quite often, we have stereotyped a person who might be a member of a group with which we have not had firsthand contact with before

Perception and Expectation

1. You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

At the beginning of this semester, I did not know about this subject's flow, so I think this subject was okay, but then, I heard rumours from my seniors, they said that I need to be careful with this subject and my seniors that they said that this subject is very tough because we need to understand and investigate the books or articles. So my expectation is that this subject maybe quite hard for me because I'm not a good reader and I didn't like to read a books or any articles moreover to investigate it. But I do hope that I can pass this subject with flying colour. And I hope I can perform well for my viva.
